interesting and well-constructed. i’ve actually been to normandy and some of the locations shown, so it was cool to be able to relate my experiences as a non-veteran american visitor to the americans interviewed. kinda depressing thinking about this post-election and realizing how many foreign relations big and small, political and personal, are about to be so fucked.

This was such a great World War II documentary! It was so impactful to hear all of the stories from the people who experienced D-Day firsthand (from the French children in Normandy, to the American GI veterans & many more!) and to learn about this part of history that is not often understood in the U.S. So grateful to Christian and to the whole production team who brought all of this together to create a beautiful and moving documentary about the power of sacrifice and forgiveness.

très intéressant et touchant, mais ça reste un point de vue américain et ça manque donc un peu d’objectivité sur certains points (mais le vétéran qui expliquait que personne aux USA n’était intéressé par son histoire m’a fait trop de peine)

The Girl Who Wore Freedom is a very touching tribute to the people of Normandy and the American soldiers who liberated them from the Nazis during World War 2. You can expect a lot of moving interviews with old people and well done historical re-enactments of events. This would make a great documentary for Veterans Day or Memorial Day, but why wait? If you want to better understand the relationship between France and the United States and celebrate the hard won freedom our veterans provided for us and in Europe than this movie is for you.

Review by Allie ★★★★
I have seen many documentaries and read many books on D-Day before (it’s not like it’s an uncommon subject), but I’ve never before seen one from the perspective of the civilians who the Normandy invasion liberated. This really did provide a unique perspective that was definitely worth listening too.

Review by 1ofmystories ★★★★
The Girl Who Wore Freedom shares a love story that has lasted for over 75 years but has, in many ways, gone unseen by the majority of Americans -- the love story between the French and the U.S. soldiers they see as heroes and liberators of Normandy. With the perfect combination of historical fact, compelling storytelling, and curated footage, both reenacted and archived, director Christian Taylor spins a story of remembrance, empathy for the stranger, and forgiveness.
